    About

This is a short account written in day by day diary form of the contribution made by the Officers and Men of the 1st Battalion The Suffolk Regiment during the Malayan Emergency covering the period May 1949 to January 1953.
Many of the personnel who served with the Battalion were young National Servicemen, who suddenly found themselves in a completely different environment nearly 8,000 miles from the UK in a country covered 4/5th by jungle and swamp.
The way in which they adapted themselves to the conditions is typical of the British soldier, in a very short time these young men became seasoned jungle fighters.
