    About

The two imprisoned women form an unlikely bond and decide to confront the legal system in River County, Washington.

This story is based on the true authorized account of two tragic, fascinating women thrown together in the most brutal of circumstances. Monica Maggio, an immigrant of Brazilian ancestry from Guyana, is a convicted murderer who has been sentenced to 43 years in prison and is facing retrial because of jury irregularities in her first murder trial. Monica befriends another inmate, Fay Carr, an ailing, white, older woman from Washington State, who is awaiting trial on charges of kidnapping and assault against three persons.

Facing extreme injustice in the courts and jails of a small Northwest community, the naive Monica turns to her cellmate, the disfigured Fay, who has the street sense of one who has fought the battle on her own for many years. The two imprisoned women form an unlikely bond and confront the legal system in River County, Washington. Over time, what began as a relationship designed for survival in the brutal and unforgiving environment develops into a warm and lasting romantic love.
