    About

Over 70 years ago there occurred in a mansion house near Kingsbarns, Fife, in Scotland, terrifying phenomena which have fascinated those interested in the paranormal ever since. The occupants of Pitmilly House were subjected to spontaneous outbreaks of fires, airborne objects and other occurrences which indicated the activities of a malicious poltergeist. The story of Pitmilly, which involves a gambler disgraced by royalty, and a connection with Harry Price, the flamboyant psychic investigator of Borley Rectory, ‘the most haunted house in England,’ is told in this booklet, which uses exclusive access to the histories, recollections and photographs of the three families, the Monypennys, Gordon Cummings, and Jeffreys, connected with the Fife mansion. The inexplicable events in Pitmilly House inspired a 1947 play, The Poltergeist, made into a film, Things Happen at Night, the following year.

This is a revised e-book version of the booklet Pitmilly House: Poltergeist Manor, using startling new information from an investigation into Pitmilly House carried out by the Society for Physical Research. The mansion, became a hotel, and was demolished in 1967, but its sinister reputation endures locally and internationally.
