Determined to gain Karen’s respect, Jens accepts his Grandfather’s challenge to build a replica of a Faering, a four-oared Viking fishing boat. While looking for materials, Jens finds a downed RAF air gunner in an abandoned boatshed. Instantly, Jens is hurled into a life of increasing danger with the Resistance, when he and his Grandfather help the man to escape. Alone, Jens has to cares for his injured Grandfather, saves Karen from Lars ‘treachery and hides his father’s new design for a ship’s propeller. Without warning, the Germans arrest Danish Jews for relocation in Germany and Karen and her brothers are now on the run. Helpless, jens must watch his father’s execution for sabotage.

The Faering must prove seaworthy enough to take them all to Sweden, if Jens is to save Karen, her brothers and save his father’s plans.
