This is my story of how I became a compulsive gambler, and how I escaped from active gambling addiction. It is an inspiring journey from despair to recovery and will encourage anyone coping with a similar problem or involved with someone who is.
Today life is good. I feel sane and have peace of mind. I am blessed with a beautiful daughter, loving family and a happy and fulfilled life. But this was not always the case. I last gambled over four years ago. That sounds like a long time, but I can remember my last bet just like yesterday.
I first came into gambling recovery more than 12 years ago. I will share with you the events that led me to seek help; I am extremely lucky that I never ended up homeless or behind bars, as my behaviour was getting more and more erratic. At the height of my gambling excess I stole and manipulated people, took a huge bet on a business and even bought shares in a flat-racing horse.
