"Captivating and thoroughly entertaining" - 5* review
Fourteen-year-old Eddie Landon and his friends were all looking forward to their school trip to Brains Bay Activities Centre. However, excitement soon turns to dread when Eddie finds out that their fun-packed week by the sea involves a sinister twist.
It turns out that three of their teachers, plus a malevolent neuroscientist, are plotting to make money from the students’ brains. The Year Nines are to be secretly drugged one night and have some of their brain cells removed. These precious neurons, which are abundant in young people but rare in adults, will then be sold to paying clients who yearn to have a long-lost, youthful trait returned to them.
What could this trait possibly be? What is it that the neuroscientist’s customers are willing to pay thousands for? Eddie and his friends are determined to find out.
Just as they are starting to make progress, however, Eddie mysteriously disappears. His friends - rock chick Steph, rugby-mad Joe and sweet, sensitive Kerry - are left with less than a week to save him and foil the teachers' plans, ensuring that their year group leaves Brains Bay with their cerebra unscathed.
