    About

Five o’clock rolls around, and all of the sudden everyone is reaching for the liquor cabinet. You’ve had a long day of work and you’re just looking for something that will ease your nerves while you sit by the fire or watch the sunset on your porch. While real cocktails can be wonderful, sometimes you want a delicious drink that won’t impair your judgment. A great aspect of non-alcoholic cocktails is that you can serve them to anyone regardless of age. They’re a hit at summer barbecues or casual dinner parties.

Why should you switch to non-alcoholic? One or two alcoholic drinks a week won’t wreck your system, but having a few alcoholic drinks a night may. To avoid sounding like your middle school health teacher, alcohol impairs your judgment, slows your reflexes, and damages your internal organs. Switching to a non-alcoholic cocktail a couple of times a week can greatly improve your health in the long run. If you’re still not convinced, a glass of wine has approximately 125 calories, and a standard shot of rum or whiskey has between 100-150 calories. Do you restrict yourself to only one cocktail, or only one shot per cocktail? Hint: not many people do. If you don’t add liquor into your cocktails, you can consume hundreds of calories less a week.

Some people avoid making cocktails because they think they don’t have all of the necessary appliances to make them. Fortunately, making a cocktail is very simple. Most bartenders will use a cocktail shaker to mix the drinks together. While it certainly may make it easier, there’s no need to go out and spend $15-30 on a cocktail shaker when you have everything you need in your own home. With a bit of practice, you can make a perfect cocktail using only two glasses. Most of these recipes require you to mix all ingredients together in a pitcher before serving. You can mix the cocktail with a large spoon within the pitcher, but you can further mix it by pouring the cocktail into a glass. Take another glass, and then keep pouring the cocktail back and forth from one glass to another until fully combined.

When should you shake your cocktail? If the cocktail includes fruit juice or cream, shake it. Shaking introduces tiny air bubbles into the mixture, which creates a slightly frothy appearance.

When should you stir? If your cocktail includes any carbonated liquid (many of these include sparkling water), then you should stir the drink instead. You should also stir when the cocktail consists of only alcohol, although you won’t have this problem with any of these recipes.

One great thing about not using alcohol in these cocktails is that you can really mix the drink how you see fit. There’s no need to shake or stir for a certain period of time, because there is no alcohol that needs to be mixed in with the other ingredients.

It can be hard to convince yourself that these will taste just as good as the real thing, but the unique combination of ingredients in each recipe ensures that you will find the flavors you’re craving. If you’re looking for sweet, sour, plain, hot or cold, there is a recipe for you. From virgin variations of classic cocktails to fruity drinks that will be a hit with the kids, there’s sure to be something for everyone. These drinks can be consumed in the morning, afternoon, or evening.

Each of these recipes is geared towards two servings, although you can adapt them to fit your needs.
