    About

Do you look at the idealised yoga images in the media and think, “That’s not for me – I’m just not that flexible”?

Unrealistic body images of beautiful, agile Instagram models – oiled-up to show off amazing muscle definition and balancing in impossible positions – intimidate many of the people who would hugely benefit from the health and mental wellbeing qualities that yoga provides.

So why “Yoga for the Stiffer Body”? Because it offers:
•Yoga poses suitable for you even if you are a beginner
•Yoga poses suitable for you even if you are not flexible
    •High-quality colour photographs
    •Simple, precise, step-by-step instructions
    •Structured, easy-to-follow sequences
•A dynamic, challenging option for each pose to inspire you

Four sequences are given for specific areas of the body, and there are also three General Sequences that help to develop strength, stability and flexibility throughout the spine and the body. Each sequence takes about thirty minutes,

Yoga practice has become increasingly popular because its holistic mind/body/breath approach has so many health benefits. So what exactly can yoga exercises do for your health and wellbeing?

On the physical side they can:

•Improve flexibility, thereby assisting joint and spinal function
•Aid healthy weight-loss by improving dietary choices and eating patterns
•Sculpt your body into a more agile, slimmer profile

But the effects of yoga go beyond improving physical health and appearance alone. As members of a modern society, we are beset by problems of tension, anxiety, depression and fatigue. A regular yoga practice can:

    •Help control stress
    •Relieve fatigue
    •Alleviate anxiety
    •Increase mindfulness
    •Aid focus and concentration

All this helps develop the ability to sit and practice meditation.

The authors, Lin Craddock and Leo Bunyard, are experienced yoga teachers. Lin owns the highly respected Maidstone Iyengar Yoga Centre, and together they are co-founders of myyogatutor.com, an online yoga-training platform, that offers sequences for both flexible and stiffer bodies. Both were pretty inflexible when they began yoga and, since becoming yoga teachers, they have spent many years helping “normal’ people gain the physical and psychological benefits that yoga brings. Their passion for making yoga more attainable has informed the development of both their online offering and this book.
