After going to school in England for four years, Rex Bateman returns to his home in Tientsin on the eve of the Boxer Rebellion. Learning that his aunt and uncle and their two daughters may have been murdered by the Boxers, he travels to Chafui in disguise to determine if the rumors are true. Upon discovering the girls are alive and held prisoner, Rex forms a daring plan to rescue them.
