Denis Sweeting served as a fighter pilot in the RAF for six years during the second World War. He carried out over 300 operational sorties flying Hurricanes, Spitfires and Typhoons and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in Normandy.
His story highlights the hazards of wartime flying, the constant fear, never ending deaths but also the close camaraderie ,excitement and feeling of purpose.
