    About

We live amidst the untouched wilderness of the Yukon Territory in Canada, 120 kilometers north of the nearest town, Dawson City. Our closest human neighbors live 30 kilometers away.

Long, cold winters with little daylight dominate our life. The lack of modern amenities makes hard physical labor necessary. We spend a good part of our days carrying out tasks like getting firewood with a sled, hauling water in buckets, and cooking dinner without electricity or plumbing.

This book is based on the diary I kept for the first two years of my life in the wilderness. In a collection of short stories and photos, it depicts a typical year, starting with spring: In late March nature is starting to awaken, the sun comes back, the river ice is about to break and after eight months of winter, travel by boat will soon be possible again.
