On the Kent coast, not far from Folkestone a pleasant country-house party takes a turn for the sinister when the host, Roddy Chester, is found stabbed. The dead man's friends (not to mention his faithful housekeeper and valet) soon find their lives turned upside down by the arrival of an additional, decidedly unwelcome guest. For Inspector Blake has come to stay - and he is determined to remain until the guilty party is found.
