The military was a huge part of my life and influenced how I thought and lived. It still does so today. Writing down my military and life experiences in a personal journal was a labor of love.
But, not wanting to put anyone on the spot, it is being presented as fiction but based on true stories. I’ve changed most of the names and places when it was appropriate. The stories are primarily meant to entertain and help me to remember an important time of my life.
In the first book I share what it was like coming of age during the late 1940s. It was after WWII, and many young men were unsure of what the future would bring. It was about making choices and difficult decisions without family support and direction. This book is about growing up in the Navy and realizing that there is a whole world out there.
In book two, the stories pick up after Beverly and I were married and we started a family. We ended up having six children including a pair of identical twin boys. The kids and I had a number of adventures over the years. This book includes stories and adventures that occurred during the 1950s until my retirement.
Book three carves out the Vietnamese adventures during the early days of that dreadful war. The stories cover an entirely different period of time in my life. It was a time of great strife, sadness, and personal sacrifice. At the same time, I experienced fun and inspiring situations.
I am thrilled to share my stories with family, friends, and those interested in the lives of military families.
