Sylvia Aguilar Zéleny, deals with divorce and the loss of a child, and her quest to find herself as a Mexican-American. The book intertwines poetic word play to finally talk about what she isn't supposed to. "One does not speak about this," is a satirical approach to remain silent about taboos most bilingual Latina women face on a daily basis. She moves effortlessly between cultures ( Mexican-American) and references her environment as such. No need for antidepressants to deal with how "rara" (weird) she feels. She simply writes and talks about, even though is "prohibited" for a lady to listen to Nirvana and read Sylvia Plath.
