There are several things to bear in mind when considering diet and all the various aspects of it.
You have heard the expression, you are what you eat. This was never more true than in the field of Athletics, Bodybuilding and Sports.
An Athlete could train eight hours a day, but if the diet was not geared to such a routine, the progress would be in exact relation to the quality of the diet.
It is now generally considered by most top Athletes and Bodybuilders, that diet is 75% of success in these fields.
Please bear in mind however, what we are talking about is a diet for the Athlete, Bodybuilder and sports person who wishes to reach the top, or at least the limit of his or her potential.
The amounts of Proteins, Vitamins and so on are calculated on this basis and suggested as such. The average man who never takes any greater exercise than taking his dog for a walk would not need a diet such as is required by the Athlete, Bodybuilder and sports person.
What we are therefore talking about is, Maximum Nutrition, for Maximum performance. Also bear in mind, that it’s not what a food contains of any particular Vitamin or Mineral, but how much.
It’s also true, that it’s not what you consume, but how much you absorb, that matters.
With this in mind, there are several aspects to consider in relation to diet and maximum nutrition for the Athlete, Bodybuilder and sports person.
No one item or group of items in themselves will give maximum results.
All aspects need consideration, and these include the following:-
• Protein
• Vitamins
• Minerals
• Enzymes
• Carbohydrates
• Fats
• Trace Elements
• Absorption Aids
Let us therefore take each of these items separately, and review what is now known and considered to be the present thinking in relation to each of them.
All of the individual elements listed above work together to form a whole, and once the right balance is established for any particular individual, once the optimum diet has been worked out by the Athlete concerned, for himself or herself, by himself or herself, based upon the most up to date information currently available, then that person will reduce by half the time it takes to reach his maximum potential.
Remember, no two people are alike, each individual reacts differently to any particular thing, be it a Protein, a Vitamin or what have you. Advice based upon experience is important, but in the end, it comes down to each of us listening to ourselves and being guided by our own instincts.
So remember, there are no magic formulas, but there are shortcuts.
Let us therefore, in the following pages, explore some of them.
