    About

Making friends with illegal immigrants from Senegal triggered this series of books on a small but magical corner of West Africa. The author travelled by bike through Senegal and the Gambia to explore their way of life back home and try to find out why they left it all behind to risk everything on a frail boat in the ocean to reach Europe.

The experience was so fascinating that she returned to take up an invitation to stay with a family in a remote village, hoping to discover what life is really like in an African compound.

'The Village On The Edge Of The World', the second in her 'Travels In West Africa' series, is the record of her faithful observations of daily life, and the consistent kindness with which a black, Moslem community welcomed a white Christian into their midst.

The book is an extraordinary account of her experiences and at the same time a touching tribute to the people of Kartong village and elsewhere, who demonstrated time and time again that basic human values extend far beyond racial, cultural and religious differences.

All proceeds from this book will be reinvested in worthwhile projects in the Gambia and Senegal.
