It is Christmas Eve and a tiny baby is left on the doorstep of an elderly couple who live in Christmas Street - so they name him John Christmas. He grows up to follow in his father's footsteps by making carousel horses for travelling fairgrounds. In time he has his own son, a boy named David, who sets up a business called "The Father Christmas Company". Harmless enough to start with, but before long he is trying to take over all the business from the real Father Christmas. It is left to David's son, Christopher, to save the day.
