'The Road to the Asylum' describes the social problems that accompanied Rock music in the Bohemian world of Bromley and the West End. As the music changed from Rock n' Roll to Psychedelic Rock, and then to Punk Rock there were casualties among the successful and failures alike. I map my own path through the alternative underworld to the notorious Cane Hill psychiatric hospital where I met and befriended David Bowie's step brother Terry Burns. Terry was the formative influence on David Bowie, they were brought up together and Terry turned David onto Beat literature and Modern Jazz. David Bowie wrote songs about, and inspired by Terry.
