Despite the focus on the marching parades of the Loyal Orange Institution there has been little attention paid to the historic religious precepts. If anything is thought today of the Order, it is simply that the members have always maintained a strict bigotry against every other sect in the United Kingdom. However, the historic qualifications of an Orangeman, being almost as old as the institution itself, provide the real substance of what the Lodges should believe.
This work explores in the form of a catechism, the words of the qualifications and gives over 125 references to the Holy Scriptures of the King James Version of the Bible.
An analysis of this work and a comparison of it to the beliefs of the modern member of the Loyal Order will demonstrate that the failures of today are not worthy of being compared with the historic qualifications. It will be demonstrated that the qualifications are a good, sound and orthodox Christian statement.
It is hoped that Lodge Chaplains will be able to find great help from this work.
