    About

This is the parallel Latin / English text of Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People. The English translation and introduction is by A. M. Sellar. In this edition each Latin word is linked to a dictionary definition from a condensed dictionary provided as an appendix.

Venerable Bede wrote, "The Ecclesiastical History of the English People" (Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum) in approximately 731 AD. It is a history of England and specifically the growth of Christian Church in England. The main focus is on the conflict between the pre-Schism Roman Rite and Celtic Christianity. Originally composed in Latin, it is considered to be perhaps the single most important original reference on Anglo-Saxon history, and it has played a key role in the development of a national identity for England.

It is believed to have been completed in 731 AD when Bede was approximately 59 years old.
