With over ten years of college counseling experience, this simplistic guide will help everyone with where to start and end when it comes time to picking colleges to apply to. In this day and age, college is a mainstream discussion. Is it worth the cost? How do I get in to the school of my dreams? What happens if I can’t afford to go to college? You’ve heard the questions and I work with the questions each year as I advise my students throughout the process. The reality is college isn’t a mystical place that people attend; graduate, than get their ideal job getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars annually.
In fact, college can be viewed as the most important investment one can make in themselves. When you factor in that people are forced to make this decision at eighteen years old and you start to see the real problem. Imagine having to take out a mortgage at a young age when you don’t even have a professional career to rely on! Taking out loans and struggling financially to pay just to attend college is a decision that impacts many at an alarming rate. Putting yourself in a hole that is hard to dig out of at age 18-21 is a recipe for a disaster.
My intent in writing this book is to simply show you the different options that you have no matter what type of student you are, or what financial income your family has. If you have lower than expected SAT & ACT scores, there’s still hope. Everyone is unique and the college application process is very different from person to person. This book is my experiences summed up in a short and succinct way that allows everyone to focus on the importance factors of attending college.
