About
Joseph Grimaldi was born in London, England to a family of comic performers, but made a name for himself on the stage. He became known for his appearances as a harlequin "whiteface" clown, a style that is part of modern clown costumes today. After his death, his personal notes were put together and edited by Charles Dickens (Oliver Twist, Tale of Two Cities) who watched Grimaldi's performances as a child.
