    About

Originally published September 28, 1883, by the Wide Awake Library, The Life and Trial of Frank James is the dramatic account of the famed outlaw's trial for the murder of Frank McMillan during the robbery of the Rock Island Line train at Winston, Missouri on July 15, 1881.

This account contains fascinating eyewitness testimony of the robbery and unique insights into the weapons, horses, and techniques used in the James Gang crimes. Also featured are dramatic appearances by former Confederate General Joseph Orville Shelby (who took the stand drunk) and Dick Liddell, a former member of the James Gang. Keep an eye out for the testimony of Mrs. Zerelda Samuels, mother of Frank and Jesse James, as she takes the stand dressed all in black with part of her arm missing as it had been previously blown off by Pinkerton agents. The trial climaxes with the testimony of Frank James himself.

Editor's Note: The text has been painstakingly reproduced from a facsimile of the original document. Blatant typographical errors have been corrected but quaint spellings of the era have been preserved.

You will notice that the text omits the heading "Seventh's Day's Trial". This is how appeared in the original publication.
