• TRILOGY - Three western books by Edward S. Ellis are in this Kindle book: Daniel Boone; The Life of Kit Carson & The Great Cattle Trail
Daniel Boone
Daniel Boone (1734-1820) was an American frontiersman and ideal of the American pioneer, Ellis writes. He was brave, cool, self-reliant, a dead shot with his rifle, a consummate master of woodcraft, with sturdy frame, hopeful at all times, and never discouraged by disasters which caused many a weaker spirit to faint by the way. He founded one of the first American settlements west of the Appalachians and before the end of the 18th century, more than 200,000 Europeans had migrated to Kentucky/Virginia. Boone was also a militia officer during the Revolutionary War (1775–83).
The Life of Kit Carson
Christopher Houston Carson, known as Kit Carson, (1809-1868) was an American Indian fighter from what is now called Missouri. He became a trapper and explored the west to Spanish California, and north through the Rocky Mountains. He was also a guide for John C. Fremont and led 'the Pathfinder' through much of California, Oregon and the Great Basin area.
The Great Cattle Trail
Avon Burnet, 19, was one of the finest horsemen in western Texas on his mustang Thunderbolt. He was a native of the Lone Star State. Until he was 13 he attended the school in a log cabin. Avon's uncle served in the Confederate army during the Civil War, returning to Texas at the end to recover his fortunes. The captain had no children and he developed a strong attachment for the boy who would inherit his estate.
