This book is as enchanting as it is full of drama. Jamie takes us on his journey to find his father, who has gone away to fight in World War I, but a telegram stating his father is missing presumed dead, does not deter Jamie in going to London to find out exactly what has happened. Jamie's evil Uncle has other ideas, hiding behind a web of lies, deceit and murder, bullying both Jamie and his mother in order that he can stay out of the way of the police, who are looking for him. Jamie's journey is beset with problems, but with the support of a mysterious Gypsy woman he battles to overcome every obstacle that is thrown in his way, as he goes on his quest to find out what has become of his father. This is a superb read for anyone; young or old, and published in the centenary year of the First World War it is not only topical, but it transports the reader back to a time where not only the soldiers were suffering, but also the families they left behind. A real 'feel good' book that will grip you all the way through, award winning author John Smirthwaite pulls out all the stops in this engaging and topical family drama.
