After meeting for the first time at boarding school in 1969, Linda Middlewick and Elaine Rutherford were initially thrown together by a common adversity. To escape the daily torment of being bullied, the two girls found sanctuary within the crumbling walls of a disused room, in an ‘out-of-bounds’ part of the old building. This self-imposed exile, only served to intensify the bond between them, until one fateful day, while happily ensconced in the room, their childhood friendship ended abruptly, after the accidental disclosure of a dark and sinister family secret.
Thirty-three years later, a chance remark at a dinner party, provides the catalyst for an overdue reunion. In an attempt to ‘lay the ghost’ of the earlier traumatic event, Linda and Elaine decide to visit the old school, which three decades on, is now a country hotel. Whilst staying there, they visit the old hideaway room and uncover another devastating secret, which changes both of their lives dramatically.
