My healing journey took me to many countries and at each stop I found a way to open up to a new revelation about myself and the world. A big part of my healing process was learning trust. Trusting God to care, protect and provide for me. He did this through the people I met and by opening my eyes and heart to the beauty of the natural world. These were the gifts I was given, along with a steadfast determination to seek the truth. The work I did with suffering children taught me how to love and comfort my own wounded, inner child and eventually, myself. No longer running from the pain and hurt, I was able to face my suffering with compassion and truth so I could let it go. By embracing my lost child, forgiving myself for my poor choices and for the pain I caused others, I had freed myself and was able to forgive those who had injured me.
My life’s journey helped me accept that there are different methods of healing. Once I let go of fear, I was able to reach others by sharing my story. Through daily prayer and communion with God, reading the Bible and books that inspired and educated me; by spending time with nature and caring for and loving my pets, I learned to affirm the good, to accept my weaknesses and my strengths and those of others. I came to understand that we are all worthy of love. There is a story behind every choice we make, an origin story that explains our actions and beliefs. I wanted to understand my story so I could shift the paradigm. In doing so, I was able to re-frame how I saw myself and those who had injured me. It is within our power to choose. I believe it starts with being grateful. This is the key to joy. Embracing a God who is love will jumpstart the process of healing and restoration; and with healing comes freedom from fear.
