When Thea’s uncle is accidentally shot by a bullet intended for him, Rupert has to visit the woman who has haunted his every waking moment since the day of their ill-fated wedding several years ago, and escort her to her uncle's sickbed.
However, it soon transpires that getting her to London is the easy part. The difficulty he is faced with afterwards is trying to ignore the fact that the years have done little to diminish the love that still lingers between them. It soon becomes clear that this particular ghost from his past is very much a part of his future, if only he can persuade her to give him a second chance.
Unfortunately, he soon realises that by bringing her to her uncle’s sickbed he has unwittingly brought her right into the heart of one of the Star Elite’s investigations. He must now do whatever he can to ensure that Thea is not caught up in the activities of the ruthless French spy, Jacques Fornier. Can Rupert persuade Thea that his heart is truly hers? Or will his work with the Star Elite tear them apart forever?
