Welcome to the COUMADIN® (warfarin sodium Tablets, USP) Crystalline Cookbook!
The goal of this cookbook is to help the person on COUMADIN® to consume approximately the same amount of vitamin K each day in a heart-healthy way. This is essential to help maintain a PT/INR (prothrombin time/International Normalized Ratio) within the desired therapeutic range on a given COUMADIN® dose. The cookbook provides practical dietary guidelines for patients who take the anticoagulant COUMADIN®. Patients who take the generic form of COUMADIN®, warfarin sodium, can also use this cookbook. All warfarin sodium, USP, products represent the same medication and should not be taken at the same time as overdosage may result. We intend to provide these guidelines in an enjoyable manner, primarily by furnishing the reader with recipes that are tasty, heart healthy, contain all food groups (including plenty of vegetables) and contain an accurate estimate of vitamin K content.
We want these guidelines to be easy to use and to understand. There are four major parts to this cookbook. The first part is this part, the introduction. The second part gives several useful tips on how to consume a more steady or consistent daily amount of vitamin K. The third part is a list of foods that contain very small amounts of vitamin K. The fourth part is the recipes themselves. The amount of vitamin K that the patient on COUMADIN® consumes each day is crucial to help keep the effect of COUMADIN® steady.
