With Christmas just around the corner, she had already stirred up interest from the window-shoppers. Mothers and grandmothers stopped and smiled at the doll in the window, and little girls from well-to-do families dressed in coats and hats and mittens jumped up and down with delight when they saw the beautiful doll in the pink dress. But there was something special about this poor little girl with the big brown eyes who had just been in his store.
