And stick to his guns he did, buying his first ship the Blue Belle when he was just eighteen years of age. Time moved on, though, and Dick found himself serving with the Ipswich police force and married with a young family … perhaps his teacher had been right.
But on the 9th March, 1978, a fully restored Debut lay at anchor in Mountbatten Bay in the outer harbor of Plymouth Sound. The sun was shining and a light breeze drifted in from the south-east. It was a wonderful day for the start of the adventure of a lifetime and to live out the fantasy Dick’s teacher had mocked.
So, together with a young crew of adventurers, Dick set out to explore the Caribbean and South Seas …
