Herman the naked mole rat is very excited and interested in learning about the world around him. Unlike the normal mole rat, he wants to see what adventures he can find, both in the mole rat community and outside his world. This is the first book focusing on Herman's life and the adventures that he gets into with his best friends, Jessica and Nathan. Throughout the night when most mole rats are eating and working, the three friends spend time exploring and discovering the world around them. These stories have developed around the many bedtime stories I tell my daughter. Even though there are only three chapters in this book, the plan is to continue expanding on the Herman stories that we have experienced and give the reader a look inside the life of these strange and unusual creatures.
Even though normal mole rats never leave their tunnels and burrows, Herman has found many ways to adventure out and bring the life of the world back to his community. Coming from the vantage point of a small animal, he experiences the world in a different way and hopefully this is reflected in the writing.
This book is written for children, most likely between the ages of 4 and 10. When I tell these stories to groups of children in this age group, they are overjoyed with the experiences that they hear about. The book is illustrated by my daughter which also helps to bring a child's sense to the story and what is occurring as it happens.
