Things had become financially difficult for the Duke of Stonely and his half-brother Waller-Boyce. The upkeep of the house and estate, of which they did little towards, was going to become a burden, forcing their hand to consider drastic action.
Their first attempt at opening an exclusive ‘get away from it all’ hotel in the Swinging Sixties proved to be, awkward. However it did give them an idea that would prove to be considerably more lucrative, and being hidden away in the countryside was a definite advantage, had it not been for a travelling churchman and a couple of archaeological treasure hunters.
