Most, if not all, of the concepts in this book can and do apply to telecommuting dads. The focus remains on the telecommuting mom, however, due to my personal perspective and experience, as well as to highlight some possibilities and alternatives available to career-driven moms in light of the fact that certain challenges are just more unique to females in this circumstance.

This book is not about the much discussed and debated notion of "having it all." Rather, it's about finding a (and not the) perfect balance — specifically, the balance that is perfect for you. Having it all is completely subjective.
I am none of the above — not the owner of a successful practice, not the woman with the ability to maintain her sanity juggling multiple children all day long, and certainly not the cheerful personality that I so envy but could only probably personally attain through medication. What I am, is a fellow mother who has found a perfect work-life balance (one version of it) and understands that it is all possible because of telecommuting.
The beauty of telecommuting is that it lets you be a wife, mother and career woman to whatever extent your heart desires. Simply put, it can offer you the opportunity to attain your definition of balance. It is definitely not the traditional "American Dream" of the corner office with a view, but I believe it is closer to what the present-day workforce (and working parent) is demanding.

While telecommuting positions can come in all shapes and sizes, this book focuses less on the broad spectrum of possible telecommuting positions, and more on the professional-track positions. It is not my intent to tell you that to be a mom and work from home, you have to completely change course and begin working in a new or lesser field. Rather, my goal is to show you that you can actually maintain (and not forgo or give up on) your career (collectively, the education, experience and skills you have personally acquired).
