This is the story of a teacher who throughout her career worked in what many may feel were rather strange schools. She began to teach in 1955 in a classroom reached by a fire escape and with very little equipment for her class of 44 mixed age children, and moved on to become a deputy head at 26, eventually teaching in her own school in Thailand before taking a long break to bring up her son. On return to teaching she found she had a great deal to learn. The end carries something of a surprise when she tried to act as a whistleblower.
