    Tales from the Table

    By Antonio Alfani

    About

A family of the Italian South seen, as in a great fresco, with all its joys and hardships. This is the tale of a table two hundred years long, around which seven generations have sat. The laughter and sorrows of these extraordinary men and women were bound together by the fragrent dishes that arrived from their kitchens.

ANTONIO ALFANI has always defined himself as “a gypsy of the world”. As
a youth he lived with his family between Salerno, Naples and Rome. Later,
as an adult, he lived in Paris, London and New York. Today he has set down
roots in the florentine Chianti hills, where he dreams of his new travels. He
still recalls how, as a boy, his parents would take him to see Capodimonte
or Pompeii rather than to the playground. Later he would bring the same
“gusto” to the restaurants and pastry shops of the world, in search of the
best that the culinary arts could offer him. Thanks to his family heritage,
carefully guarded and handed down from generations of cooks, even
Antonio's most complicated recipes are uncomplicated and easy to follow.
