The Office of the President, Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government is charged with the responsibility of public administration, internal security, printing of Government documents, Immigration and Registration of Persons, Betting Control Probation Services, Prison Services and championing campaign against drug and substance abuse. The Ministry also coordinates state functions and offers reception services to all Government ministries. Given these diverse functions, it is organized into five main departments, thus Provincial Administration Services, Kenya Police, Administration Police, Government Press, and National Agency for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA). The Ministry’s functions have evolved and its operations restructured over time to address emerging issues. However, it has remained decentralized to the grassroots in order to provide a framework for quick interpretation, dissemination and implementation of Government policies. Currently the Ministry oversees the administration, development and security of 8 Provinces, 287 Districts, 476 Divisions, 2,516 Locations and 6,841 sub locations as well as other administrative officers seconded to line Ministries.
One of the major lessons i learnt during this internship is that people are the backbone of any government structure or organization and if the employees or customers of an organization are not treated well, then chances of such organization succeeding are small. The image and brand of an organization or the government are very important as they determine how other people view them. The supply chain sector, particularly procurement is a very sensitive area. This is due to the many development projects and services that are provided by the government through this department and the high standards of integrity required in this area of work
The attachment program has enabled me to; Appreciate the importance of human relationship, Be oriented towards the work program, Apply theoretical process and human based skills into practice, Obtain knowledge of potential career and develop new areas of interest, Acquire industrial culture through practical involvement, Apply skills acquired from formal instruction to real work situation, Are acquainted to technology not available in school but exist in industry, Build technical and confidence operation skills, See various accounting books and see how they are used in various departments and Develop work attitude like curiousness, self-confidence, maturity, and self-reliance.
In conclusion, it is my sincere pleasure and gratitude taking this opportunity to say that; I am very much delighted to have achieved the objectives of my industrial training such as cultivation of students’ professionalism, attitude and adaptive skills in the work place environmental, interpersonal skills, technical and design competency. However, this training was very interesting, instructive as well as challenging as i was able to gain new insights and a more comprehensive understanding about the real industry working condition and practice.
I would recommend theKenya Airport Authority to who have been interested in working in government as this is a government working organization. I would also recommend it those who are interested in running their own businesses ,as there are many businesses operating at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport ,especially those dealing in export and import business .For those who prefer employment ,i would also recommend this organization as there are good benefits for employees.
