A chapter book told in Stubby's own words — Stubby was mascot during WWI and proved to be a hero. He saved men's lives and was wounded himself. He is credited with capturing a German spy and was awarded many medals, which were pinned to a cape he wore. A smart dog, Stubby learned many tricks, including how to salute. He was smuggled aboard ship and traveled to France. After the war, he traveled with his master, J. Robert Conroy, marching in parades and going along when Conroy spoke to people back home about what war was like. Conroy's goal was to convince people that no one should have to go to war again. A model of Stubby can be seen at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.
