‘I love cooking and baking, never happier than when I’m concocting in the kitchen for family and friends.’
In Stir in a Smile, Liz Ashworth, Scottish Cookery Writer and Member of the Guild of Food Writers, brings together the true stories with related seasonal recipes that she originally shared in her column in an award-winning local newspaper ‘The Northern Scot.’
Throughout Stir in a Smile, Liz shares anecdotes of her life, most of it spent working in the food sector, from hotels and industrial catering to food factories and bakeries. Liz’s experience has ranged from managing staff catering for Baxter’s at Fochabers to helping create award-winning Oaty Bakes with Nairn’s Oatcakes.
Born and bred in Elgin, Moray but with family roots in the islands of Orkney in the north to the borders of Scotland and beyond, Liz writes about family and friends. It’s important to Liz to cook recipes old and new to share round the table with all who dare to dine! A meal shared tastes so much better in every way.
Liz appeared on Scottish TV’s ‘Square Meals’ programme and has been a guest cook at many festivals, including Perth Food Festival, Edinburgh Book Festival, Keith Show Celebration of Food, Living Food at Cawdor, Speyside Whisky Festival , Portsoy Boat Festival and The Big Tent Event at Falkland in Fife. Liz’s roots on Orkney beckon constantly and she is involved many projects including the Orkney International Science Festival.
Liz is a Member of the Foundation Board of UHI, recently joined the Historic Banffshire Kronach Association and enjoys every opportunity to teach cooking and share fresh local healthy food.
