I remember my grandma’s kitchen with the fondest of memories. You would find her making pancakes and syrup or grits and eggs for breakfast, fried green tomatoes for dinner (we called lunch “dinner”) and chicken fried steak with gravy or Southern fried catfish for supper (we called dinner “supper”). Add to that buttermilk biscuits, cornbread, collard greens, black-eyed peas and banana pudding and you’re in Southern heaven! That reminds of the Hank Williams, Jr. song, “If Heaven Ain’t a Lot Like Dixie, I Don’t Wanna Go!”
My grandma’s recipes come from a long line of Florida pioneer women who learned to cook from an early age. My great-grandma kept a box of recipes which my grandma added to. I now have that box of recipes! Imagine having handwritten recipes from as far back as the 1800’s! I began thinking one day that it was a shame to keep these incredible Southern recipes all to myself so I decided to write a cookbook! As I was sorting the recipes, I realized that many of my grandma’s and great grandma’s recipes are what’s commonly known as “Soul Food!” This is how Southern White Folks’ Soul Food Cookbook was born! If you’ve been looking for an authentic Southern cookbook steeped in Southern pride and culture, you’ve found it! Enjoy!
