PLAY 1 "Arquin & the New Story". Arquin is the kingdom's greatest story teller who has been asked by the King to prepare a great story for the Queen's birthday celebrations - but alas! Arquin has Storyteller's block! He searches the land for inspiration and comes across a bizarre bunch of characters. A sad and lonely woodcutter, a bee allergic to honey, a not so scary bear and more! But more importantly, he discovers accidentally the greatest story he has ever told!
DURATION: 15 mins. STYLE: Comedy, (partly narrated) - easy to stage - no sets necessary - can be done with just props. SETTING: Fairytale.
CAST: 11 (but roles can be doubled up with a cast of 5 or 6) - we performed this once with each actor taking turns as the Narrator.
PLAY 2 – “The Old Woman's Untold Truth!” A funny take on the classic nursery rhyme – The Old Woman in the Shoe – but what really happened! Including a cameo or two from some other beloved characters. Life use to be great for the Old Woman, her husband and their many children. They lived in a beautiful farmhouse and all got along splendidly. That is until this one day Father, upon hearing a strange rumble, decided to go investigating in the dark woods nearby. He soon encounters the big smelly giant, (who has been roaming around looking for his lost shoe), and after accidentally flattening their lovely farmhouse with a sneeze, he captures father to have another slave to make another shoe instead. Meanwhile the Old Woman and her children survived the sneeze, found themselves homeless, but with the help of Dorothy from the wizard of Oz, they find a new home in the giant’s lost shoe – stinky, but a place to stay. Time passes and the children stage a secret mission to save their father from the giant. A great battle looms between the children, the giant and his quirky entourage of witches, dim-witted guard and nitpicking servant. The children rescue father, but are chased through the woods by the giant until Cinderella saves the day. They are all reunited again with the Old Woman and begin their new adventure to find another place to stay; knowing rumours of a little house made out of gingerbread and lollies!
DURATION: 25 mins. STYLE: Comedy, (partly narrated), minimal sets and props. SETTING: Fairytale.
CAST: 18 (but roles can be doubled up with a cast of 10-12)
