This collection of Bérenger Saunière’s Rennes-le-Chateau postcards has taken the author almost 6 years to complete and was only finalised with the purchase of an album from someone who lives in France, near to Rennes-le-Château.
The postcards feature images of the interior of Saunière’s Mary Magdalene church and his Rennes-le-Château domain shortly after he completed his renovations. Thus these are the earliest images available. Also included are the Hautpoul Château and some nearby views.
The postcards sold for 10ct and seemed to have been placed for sale in various places in and around Rennes-le-Château, including the nearby village of Rennes-les-Bains, where Saunière seemed to have done a brisk trade in selling them to visitors come to bathe in the thermal waters located there. He comments in a letter to a friend that: “All the bathers take the complete collection. The cards have so much success that I can hardly keep up supplying them"
