Rouen is the capital of the region of Normandy with the population of about 110,000, and it takes 1 hour and 10 minutes from Saint-Lazare station in Paris by train.
It has been developed with water transportation of the Seine since Roman times.
Rouen is known as the place where Jeanne d'Arc was burned at the stake, and there are the church, the tower and the street which are associated with Jeanne d'Arc. Notre Dame cathedral is known worldwide as the subject of a series of paintings by Claude Monet-one of the greatest master impressionists.
There are many traditional Normandy-style half-timbered houses and Gothic churches in the old town.
