Ari has been given an assignment of her dreams. She is sent to London to appraise newly found work by the famous artist, Aronde. Aronde is famous for having only painted the feet of beautiful women. Ari is late on her first day to work, dashing out of her door...and into Mary. Mary works in an old antique shop for a cantankerous old man. She is out on the street chasing after a customer who did not pay full price for an item. After she and Ari collide, she shows Ari the way to the museum where Ari works. She doesn’t have the courage to ask to see her again, although she feels an inexpressible connection between them. Both of them begin to think of each other involuntarily...but will they ever actually meet again?

Ari was looking to be swept away. She had been poisoned by all of her lonely years as a child of divorce without many friends. She had spent a great deal of time watching heteronormative romantic comedies and getting many of her formative ideas about love from them. It was not a recipe for a successful love life. She had ended many relationships over the years for things that could have been easily resolved, but because the person had not been perfect...kaput.
She told herself that things in London were going to be different. And for once, she was right. They were going to be different. She just didn’t know how yet. She fell asleep in her clothes, lying back on the bed, watching the fan move in a lazy circle. She did not wake up until the sun streamed in through the tiny porthole window of her bedroom. She woke up slowly, groggily, and the first thing in her line of vision was her unpacked suitcase. She got up and looked at her watch.
She was going to be late. She was going to be late on her first day on the job. The museum was going to fire her. She was going to have to move back to the states after a single night in London. She shot up and went to her tiny bathroom. She didn’t even have time to take in what the bathroom looked like. She saw that her makeup from the night before was mostly intact. It would have to do. She adjusted her glasses on her nose and decided that she would just have to go like this.
She sprinted down the stairs and out the front door of her building.
And smack into another person.
