This Quick Start deploys Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) on the AWS cloud. The RD Gateway uses the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) over HTTPS to establish a secure, encrypted connection between remote users on the Internet and Amazon EC2 instances running Microsoft Windows, without needing to configure a virtual private network (VPN) connection. This enables you to reduce the attack surface on your Microsoft Windows-based instances while providing a remote administration solution for administrators.
The Quick Start includes an AWS CloudFormation template that automates the creation of an RD Gateway instance in your AWS account. The Quick Start provides three deployment options:
- Deploying RD Gateway into a new VPC
- Deploying RD Gateway into an existing VPC (standalone)
- Deploying RD Gateway into an existing VPC (domain-joined)
The deployment guide describes the architecture and implementation in detail. This documentation is offered for free here as a Kindle book, or you can read it online or in PDF format at https://aws.amazon.com/quickstart/.
