This book tells the story of Daniel, a young Jewish boy, and his family, who found themselves caught up in the events of World War II in Europe. It is based on the stories of children who experienced the Holocaust in Germany, the Lodz Ghetto, and the concentration camp at Auschwitz. It follows precisely the narrative of the exhibit as seen at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., including the exhibit's opening and closing audio/video presentations. Primarily, it is intended as a means for young children who have visited the exhibit to “remember my story” as the central figure, Daniel, encourages them to do. While it is not intended as a substitute for the Museum experience, for children presently unable to visit the Museum in person, it gives a view as to what may be seen in the exhibit, all of which are naturally attuned to a child's understanding.
