The stories center on two boys from a single-parent home, and are "latch-key children" that must do for themselves while their mother is at work supporting the family. They live in the inner city, and most of the times come home from school to an empty house. Rashad is the oldest and he has the key to the door. Latch-key children are forced to mature and accept certain responsibilities than their counterparts. They must take care of the chores left by their mother for them to do, but schoolwork is always first. There are millions of latch-key children in America, especially in the inner cities. These are the stories about two of those children.
