Polar bears live along coasts and sea-ice in the freezing Arctic cold. When the sea ice forms on the ocean in cold weather, many polar bears, except pregnant females, head out on the ice to hunt seals. Polar bears have been observed in sea ice hundreds of miles off the coast. When the warm weather causes the sea ice melts, polar bears back towards the shore.
Polar bears mainly eat seals. Polar bears often rest silently into the hole in the breath of a seal on ice, waiting for a seal in the water to the surface. Once arises the seal, the bear of spring and sink its sharp teeth at the head of the seal.
