    About

Persepolis and Naqsh-e Roustam are two pre-Islamic (pre-A. D. 7th century) sites in Iran. The foundation of Persepolis Palaces' Complex was started about 520 B.C.(--earlier than the date of construction of Parthenon in Athens), and it is the first palaces' complex in the world with a fine stone architecture. Naqsh-e Roustam is a mountain in which 4 tombs of Achaemenid Kings lie and in which 6 rock-reliefs exist that depict the victories of Sassanid Kings (A.D. 2nd to A.D. 7th centureis) in battles with other nations including with the Roman empire. The importance of these two sites are more than from architectural point of view. They are also two pieces of evidence of the existence of a pre-Islamic civilization in this part of the world. When the Sassanid empire was ended by the conquest of Arab Moslems, attempts were made to level these two sites to the ground so that the Iranian generations could forget about the past civilization, From such point of view, the sites are undisputed proof of the pre-Islamic civilization in Iran.
A presentation of the stone architecture at Persepolis and at the Naqsh-e Roustam is made in the fifth volume of this series.
Although the indigenous (or the clay) architecture in Iran has a long history and may be traced back to the Sumerian time, about 7000 to 5000 years ago, in 520 B.C., a magnificent palaces' complex was founded by the Persian kings in about 30 miles north-east of Shiraaz known as Takht-e Jamshid or Persepolis. In the construction of Persepolis palaces, stone architecture is used, but in some areas, where the guards' horses were being kept, the clay architecture also is used.
One issue is necessary to be brought to the attention of the publishers and literary agents: The publishing industry in the West may be searching for a work similar to that of Hemingway to be pleased for its publication. On the other hand, producing a pictorial book is similar to the production of a motion picture and it is normally produced by the sponsorship of a government, a state, a university, or a financially strong foundation or publishing house. This is for the first time that a pictorial series is produced by the author as a post-doctoral project. Each volume of my pictorial books and manuscripts demanded resources that in some countries such resources could be used for the production of 20 to 50 books (-- or more if they are such books as just written chatting).
Finally, for those who are in search of life in other planets, this work offers illustrations of life in a corner of our planet earth that many people in the world have not yet visited. The fifth volume of An E-odyssey To Historic Cities of Iran, therefore, invites you for a journey to two historic sites of Persepolis and Naqsh-e Roustam in a convenient way, that is by sitting in your room or your office and by having an access to the internet, and by almost the price of a cup of coffee in Terminal A or Terminal B of a famous airport rather than by a $2000 airplane ticket.
