This is the story of a year of running challenges. Despite being diagnosed with M.E over 3 years ago, Gavin decided to complete as many races as he could in a year including 10 k races, half marathons, Marathons and ultramarathons. He has pitted himself against Mount Snowden, and completed Man vs Mountain. He raced a marathon along the seafront at Blackpool, and pushed himself through 30 miles of the Peak District and a further 30 miles in the Nottinghamshire countryside. He tackled the seven sisters in Eastbourne as part of the Beachy Head Marathon
Why? To try to defeat the M.E. that has afflicted him for three years and prevented him from doing the things he enjoys. By gradually increasing the exercise he has done since first suffering the illness he experienced changes to his health. Despite knowing the risks it posed, he was determined not to let it keep him down any more.
This book takes you through the year of events, the 1300 miles of training and the 281 miles of races, and deals with how the illness has changed throughout the course of it all. It also explores how his day to day life is affected by the condition. It is the story of an average runner who was determined not to be beaten by his own body.
